How to convert salary to hourly pay
Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. For a standard full-time schedule that is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so a $52,000 salary is $25 an hour. To go the other way, multiply your hourly wage by your weekly hours and by the number of paid weeks in the year.
Why weeks and hours matter
If you get paid vacation, use 52 paid weeks. If you are a contractor and take unpaid time off, enter fewer weeks to see the true average rate. Likewise, a job that requires 45 hours a week pays less per hour than the same salary at 40 hours, which the calculator shows when you change the hours field.
Common pay schedules
- Weekly: 52 paychecks per year.
- Biweekly: every two weeks, 26 paychecks per year.
- Semi-monthly: twice a month, 24 paychecks per year.
- Monthly: 12 paychecks per year.
Biweekly and semi-monthly are often confused. Biweekly pay produces two "extra" paychecks in some years, while semi-monthly always pays on fixed dates such as the 15th and last day.
